As previously mentioned, I have a lip product problem. I picked up this lip balm in a hurry during my lunch break. At Bed Bath and Beyond of all places! Without a coupon! I mean seriously, who does that?

My lips were in really bad shape cracking and peeling and I wanted to try something new. I was near BBB so I thought I’d check it out. I found ONE lip product – Waxelene. Its packaging literally said ‘The Best Lip Balm Ever.‘ How could this go wrong?

Ingredients

Waxelene markets itself as the petroleum jelly alternative. I am not super against petroleum jelly myself but I also know it’s not a necessary ingredient in products like this. Waxelene also boasts organic/natural ingredients (yes, VERY loaded terms these days!). It costs about $3.99 and has the following ingredients:

  • Organic Soy Oil
  • Beeswax
  • Organic Rosemary Oil
  • Natural Vitamin E (from soybeans)

I like that it’s a short, reasonable ingredients list. It’s also made in the USA.

My Thoughts

This is something that you could easily make in your home, but would you want to? It has a strange gritty feel when you apply it to your lips. It doesn’t feel terribly hydrating. It might provide a good barrier against the elements but it doesn’t seem to do anything to improve the condition of your lips.

For this product to be useful, I think it would be best over top of a more moisturizing product. I personally wouldn’t use it during the daytime because it’s kind of sticky, but it might be okay for overnight.

The Bottom Line

I probably won’t use this lip balm much and have a bit of buyer’s remorse.
